Note : If you are competing as part of the Scottish Universities series, please ensure that you enter the name of your university under the 'club' heading.
The race starts and finishes at Cupar Sports Centre, Carslogie Road, Cupar. This is on the west side of Cupar, just off the A91 and is clearly signed.
Cars will be allowed into Elmwood College Car Park. The car park can hold around 80 cars. Please pay attention to parking restrictions. Parking is also at Bell Baxter High School.
Registration will take place in Cupar Sports Centre Sports Hall from 8:00am. Each competitor will receive a race number, swim cap, timing chip, safety pins and various goodies donated by the sponsors.
Numbers must be worn on the front throughout the run and cycle and must be clearly visible at all times.
To complete the required distances for your race you must complete several laps of the cycle and run course. The number of laps for each race is shown below. Each competitor is responsible for completing the correct number of laps.
| SPRINT | NOVICE | |
| Swim | 30 lengths | 15 lengths |
| Cycle | 2 laps | 1 lap |
| Run | 3 laps | 2 laps |
Please place your bike and kit into your allocated position before the race briefing. It is up to each competitor to ensure that his or her bike is in a road-worthy condition. Competitors are recommended to familiarise themselves with the transition area and the cycle and run routes out of transition. Cycling will not be allowed in the transition area. There will be a water station in the transition area.
NOTE: TRANSITION WILL CLOSE AT 9:30 TO ENSURE A CLEAR RUN FOR ALL COMPETITORS.
This will be held at 9:15am. Details of the swim, cycle and run courses will be given along with instructions that may apply on the day. All competitors must attend. The first heat will not start until after the race briefing.
There will be 6 swimmers in a lane starting at 5 second intervals. Coloured swim caps will be issued at registration and must be worn by all swimmers for identification in the pool. To indicate to the swimmer in front that you wish to overtake, touch their feet and only overtake at the end of the length. If you feel your foot being touched then please stop at the end of the length. The swim marshals will indicate when you have 2 lengths to go.
Exit from the pool to the transition area. You may use the changing rooms if required after the swim. Otherwise, clothing must be stored beside your bike in the transition area. Please do not put on outdoor shoes until outside the building.
Take your bike from the rack and walk or run with your bike until outside the transition area. A map of the circuit is available below. Cycle down the track at the side of the sports centre and turn left at the end onto the A913. Please be careful of pedestrians on the track. Continue on the A913 for approximately 3km then turn left onto country roads. Turn left at Easter Fernie and onto St Mary's Road. This meets the A913. To start a second lap, turn left onto the A913. To return to the sports centre, turn right. Take extra care at this junction and give way to cyclists and traffic on the main road. Drafting is not allowed. Riders must not be closer than 7 metres to the next competitor. Side-by-side riding is only allowed when overtaking, in which case the manoeuvre must be completed within 30 seconds. In addition, it is important to remember:
The run route uses tracks and the sports field beside the sports centre. It is mainly off road and can be muddy. The finish will be on the grass opposite the pool exit.
You must hand in your chip at the finish; if you do not you will be charged £20 for its replacement. Changing rooms and showers are available in the sports centre. Please clear your equipment from the transition area and sports centre by 2pm. Please be aware of other competitors still racing while you are removing your equipment from transition. Soup and a roll will be available after the race.
The prize giving will take place in the sports hall at approximately 1.30pm in the sports hall.
Spectators are very welcome. However, please remind them that they are not allowed in the transition area at any time and should keep the pool exit clear.
Be prepared for any weather! In the event of adverse conditions the cycling section may be shortened or cancelled. The race organisers can be contacted on 07828 061356 or david.mccallum@virgin.net
